Goals of Program
The HYS spring soccer program involves boys and girls in 5 age groups (Under 10, Under 12,
Under 14, Under 16, and Under 19) in a recreational soccer program. The main objective of the program is for
children to have fun and competition playing soccer with their friends in an organized program, while also learning soccer
skills, teamwork, etc. Teams in the U-10, age groups play in a 6 v 6 format. Teams in the U12 age group play in
an 8 v 8 format and U-14 age group play in an 11 v 11 format. Boys and girls in all age groups are on separate teams. The
program consists of an 8 week regular season with all games on Saturdays (between approx. 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.).
Spring travel teams offer an opportunity beyond recreational soccer for player development and competition in a statewide
system of age-level play. Our goals for the 2007 season are three-fold: increase player knowledge of the
game, build on team tactics and, most importantly, to keep the game safe and fun for all involved with an emphasis on
good sportsmanship.
The spring program is run by South Shore Soccer League. It is a
more competitive league than our town fall program. This is a travel league covering 17 towns from Sharon, Raynham, Quincy,
Rockland, and all towns in between. HYS will hold tryouts towards the end of the fall season and players will be placed
on a team based on their performance at tryouts.
Travel teams are selected by HYS coaches at tryout held in the fall. U14 through U19 teams are limited to 18 players
each. U10 and U12 teams are limited to 14 players. HYS tries to accommodate every player that signs up for spring soccer,
however, the number of teams is based on the number of coaches available. The South Shore League places teams in
divisions according to past records and number of teams needed for each division. HYS can make suggestions on team
placements, but the South Shore League board makes all final decisions.
1. Winter indoor league - most teams
schedule games in one of the nearby dome facilities (ex: Plymouth or
Bridgewater). Attendance at the indoor games is not mandatory but it is suggested in order to keep the team playing
together and working on the game for the upcoming season. This is not affiliated with HYS and is a separate cost
to the players.
2. Outdoor practice - to begin after the end of the
indoor season in March, weather permitting. At least one practice a
week, with additional practices if deemed by the coach.
Where
Games are played on either our home fields or away at fields of the teams
we are scheduled to play. Check schedules provided to you buy your coach or
visit SSSL to view schedules.
